Take it slow – let it glow

Oil painting is my passion. I have been devoted to it for years and eagerly look forward to spending much more time on it as I find focusing on the detail of one image engrossing and highly relaxing.

I have always loved the use of oil above all other painting techniques. It suits perfectly my way of working in short spells, allowing the paint to dry and building up layers upon layers. The slow process also gives me a level of distance and a fresh perspective before I start again.

What I paint is inspired by what I see in life. The catalyst for this latest painting was Georgia O’Keeffe’s works exhibited at the 2016 Tate Modern show. For me, my paintings distil the essence of an experience, a memory or a feeling into one picture. They are often sparked by holidays or walks in the countryside, and, like in this piece, frequently employ my favourite autumnal colour palette.

For the next piece, I am working on a view of the City of London, a sight I marvel at nearly every day and therefore a great subject.
