Salad in winter time

You can harvest fresh salad leaves throughout winter on the basis of cut-and-come-again. Winter purslane, endive, various mustards and rocket are growing in our greenhouse. Many of the plants would even survive the London winter outdoors, though growing extremely slowly at temperatures around zero degree Celsius.

I would have never thought of growing anything at this time of the year was it not for my tutor at Capel Manor College. You have to plan ahead though and start putting seeds down in September for a good yield through the winter months.
